On this third episode of the podcast, after a short hiatus, Mr. Sicking (okay, let’s be real, he’s just Quinn in this episode) is joined by two of his own teachers, both former and current (hence his titular demotion): Coach Charles Boles, his junior high football coach and math teacher, and Dr. Jon Kirwan, the head of the University of St. Thomas’ Doctorate in Educational Leadership program. In their many years of experience as educators and administrators, both of these men have considerable experience in the practice of leadership, especially within Catholic institutions. Despite their different backgrounds, they find that their philosophies of leadership, in theory and practice, are largely the same: When it comes to developing the skills necessary for leadership, the essentials have never changed. Ultimately, there are no short-cuts or substitutions for the slow, careful, and constant cultivation of the virtues of humility, prudence, fortitude, and patience.
